Eugenio had his wish granted last year. His wish was to become a professional animator to create amazing animated stories like the ones that have kept him company during his medical treatments.
To help bring his talent to the next level, Make-A-Wish Mexico has provided him with a graphic tablet that will help him bring his creation from paper to computer.
Some of you may remember Eugenio from our virtual conference as he shared his talent with us. What a great artist!!

The updated International Travel Guidance leaves the decision to the Affiliate as to whether they wish to introduce International Travel again to the Wish Journey, but in doing we ask them to:
Seek Board approval for wish children to partake in wishes outside the Affiliate and document this;
Follow local Government guidance for safe COVID protocols whilst traveling.
Follow the destination country's Government safe COVID protocols for arriving and holidaying in that country.
That the appropriate medical professional permission is given, and insurance is in place for all individuals to travel.
Check that the host Affiliate is willing to support an international wish child.
The wish is uploaded into the Wish Portal with all the necessary forms (Travel Medical Authorization/Travel Waiver signed by the family).
Affiliates can refer to the daily data updates on the COVID situation across the globe provided by the Centre for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University on this LINK.

Dear Make-A-Wish Colleagues,
You might recall that we defined the pandemic a marathon, not a sprint. Never was a premonition more accurate. We are battling with current pressure and medium-long term uncertainty. Today, as we continue to strive through a slow recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic, your ongoing hard work on behalf of the children we serve, is more vital than ever. We continue to innovate and be creative in how we deliver the wish journeys which bring so much joy and hope to our wish kids and families.
The children’s wishes that you grant are signs of the human spirit
that even Covid cannot dim!
I am pleased to say that there have been several new colleagues who have joined Make-A-Wish International, and the attached org chart will show how they are positioned in the various teams, but as shown in the organizational structure the children are at the top.
Our core values of our organization serve as the map to attain our vision of granting the wish of every eligible child. They are a clear guide to our priorities, and lead the way in everything we do. Children first – they are the ‘why’ of our existence.
I hope you had the opportunity to attend all, or the relevant part of our conference. Even with a bit of disappointment on having to do it again virtually, it was a success, and celebrating all of your accomplishments was a true highlight of the week! It was great to ‘see’ those of you who attended – which was over 1000 participants from all around the world! Our plan is to have our next conference in person with Make-A-Wish America at Disneyworld in Orlando, Florida next November. You will find the exact dates later in this update. We are really looking forward to that event!
The new financial year started in a good way, and Q1 of FY22 is showing good progress as we pave the way towards a data-driven decision-making organization. We continue to test and pilot new and innovative ways of communicating and engaging with our constituents, expanding our boundaries by finding best practices from which we can all learn and grow. As we announced during the state of the foundation, the international office is at a crossroads. We have stabilized after the office relocation, hiring and acclimating new staff, and then adjusting for the Covid pandemic. More good news is that compared to last year, you have granted more wishes (see the Business Intelligence report below). You have increased the number of granted wishes by 36% compared to Q3 last year.
We must choose to be bold and aim for ambitious growth for the enterprise! Q1 has also shown that by making significant investments in the areas of Affiliate support, technology and fundraising in FY21, we have paved the way for our 3-year plan which is aiming for the $10M revenue mark in FY25! Ambitious – yes! And attainable! Of course, the ultimate goal is to ensure that we reach 20,000 wishes by 2025.
Great things are never done by one person, they're done by a team of people. We can’t do this without all of you. So, our first task is to ensure the stability of the Affiliates and your ability to perform and grow in sync with our ambitions. We will be working with each of you on the 3-5 year strategic plans to ensure we are aligned in our growth plans.
With ambition comes a lot of work, and I know we are all up to the task!
I wish all the best for each of you during this festive season! Happy holidays and we are looking forward to an amazing new year in 2022. The best is still to come!
Best wishes,
Dear Affiliate Community,
Previously, we shared the strategic plan for FY22-25, where you can see that our Board has endorsed the bold growth moves of the International organization, by making significant investments in the areas of fundraising, technology and Affiliate support. The plan sets the long-term horizon of 3-5 years with a trajectory to get the Make-A-Wish International organization to the $10M revenue mark by FY25 the latest with the minimum goal of 20,000 wishes by 2025. The plan has several initiatives aimed at supporting Affiliates, including Centers of Excellence (COE), training/development for CEOs, and a new Innovation fund.
By sharing these goals with everyone, we want to ensure that we have strategic alignment between Make-A-Wish International and Affiliates. We expect the International office to support the implementation and to monitor the progress of each Affiliate in order to link operational systems and processes to the organization's strategic objectives. By providing top-level direction and guidance for the enterprise, Make-A-Wish International's role will be to help identify gaps and opportunities which can be exploited and enhanced. This planning, investment, and measurement will help to ensure the successful implementation of this plan for all of us.
Key actions include:
Review of each Affiliate's annual performance plans and goals, and other relevant budget plans;
Alignment of annual performance targets with long-term plans;
Communicate in an open and transparent manner to facilitate cross-org collaboration to achieve mission objectives.
Make-A-Wish International exists to help each of you succeed! We want to guide, support and inspire you to accept these bold goals and develop your own Affiliate plans for an alignment with the global goal of 20,000 wishes by 2025.
It will take a lot of effort, communication and collaboration – as we strive to fulfill our vision of granting the wish of EVERY eligible child.
Happy holidays to all and best wishes for a safe and prosperous new year!
Best wishes,
Please extend your warmest welcome to our newest CEO in the network!

Actually, I would wish kids not even got sick at all, and would just have their wishes granted, safe and sound."

We’ve made good progress to pave the way towards a data-driven decision making organization. We’ve also started to have closer digital fundraising/media buy collaborations with more affiliates, starting with Make-A-Wish Germany.
A contract has been secured with a new marketing automation tool called Adverity. This will allow us to make insights-driven decisions faster and easier with the intelligent data and analytics platform for all of our marketing platforms. The project will officially kick-off in January. By March, the digital team will focus on setting up an appropriate dashboard to provide us with great insights, then we will be sharing this with more Affiliates.
SEO aims to increase our worldwish.org website organic ranking on search engines so that the organic donations may increase in a long run. Organic search results are the query results that are calculated strictly algorithmically, and not affected by advertiser payments.
An SEO keywords audit and strategy has completed by our agency and optimization has begun. A visualized dashboard has been created and will help us gauge performance.
Objectives:
Help to pave the way of building a digital ads collaboration model with affiliates

We are now in conversation with Jay Chou's production company, and we are looking at many more projects to collaborate on in Asia... watch this space!

In the December quarterly distribution, each Affiliate will receive an allocation of funds from the activation surrounding the launch of Disney Cruise Line’s new ship “The Wish”.
These funds are in support of Disney’s Diversity, Equality & Inclusion strategy. So should go towards supporting children from diverse backgrounds.
Disney launched the Ultimate Princess Celebration as a global campaign this year all about the courage and kindness of Disney princesses, which tied in a few wish stories too!
In Malaysia, there is a wonderful local activation tied to the celebration: https://makeawish.org.my/disney-ultimate-princess-campaign/
Despite logistical challenges, Disney continues to find ways to provide wish anticipation ‘boosts’ to children waiting for their Disney wishes around the world.
Thank you to ALL the Affiliates who have been / are involved in the above activations.
We really appreciate your ongoing support!
Disney has also given a grant to Make-A-Wish International, to support strategic projects which will help develop our network as a whole.
